The brief
Turning JJ’s into a proper sports bar
When JJ’s Sports Bar in Workington closed temporarily for a major refurbishment, the owner wanted to completely rethink the TV system. The existing five-screen setup and ageing HDMI matrix had become unreliable. Screens could flicker, lose their picture or stop working at exactly the wrong moment.
The brief to DAV was clear: make the venue look like a proper sports bar, make the system reliable and make it simple for staff to use.
The solution
Designed around the room—not the old equipment
Behind the screens
Reliable 4K distribution with room to grow
The system supports 4K video at 60Hz, which makes a real difference on the larger displays. Each source has its own transmitter and every television has a receiver, allowing any source to be routed to any screen.
The 24-port PoE switch powers the BluStream units as well as carrying the video signal. If JJ’s adds more screens or creates a video wall later, the platform can expand without replacing the whole system.
The installation
Built properly behind the scenes
Strip out and prepare. Redundant equipment and old cabling were removed during the refurbishment.
Install the backbone. New structured Cat6 routes connect every display position to the central system.
Centralise the equipment. Sky, network and Video over IP hardware now sit in a dedicated rack—organised, accessible and away from the heat, dust and knocks common behind a busy bar.
Configure and hand over. The tablet interface and match-day presets were tested with the team so day-to-day control takes seconds.

The result
A purpose-built sports bar that works on busy days
With 12 properly positioned screens, a huge feature display, 4K distribution and simple tablet control, JJ’s now looks and feels like a genuine sports bar.
More importantly, the system is reliable, organised and expandable. Staff do not need to understand the equipment rack—they select the right preset and get on with serving customers.
