The brief
CCTV designed around how the yard actually works
When a local scaffolding company moved into a new yard in Barrow-in-Furness, they wanted the CCTV putting in properly from the start.
It is a big working site, with vans being loaded from multiple scaffold bays throughout the day, staff in the office and reception, and vehicles and equipment left on site overnight. We designed and installed a 16-camera Hikvision CCTV system to give them useful coverage across the whole operation, rather than simply putting a few cameras around the perimeter and hoping for the best.
Useful coverage
Clear views of every loading bay
One of the main requirements was being able to see what was loaded onto each vehicle. We positioned 8MP Hikvision cameras across the individual scaffold bays to provide clear loading views and help the team check which equipment left on each van.
The system also covers vehicles left on site overnight, with additional cameras protecting the main building and reception so the whole operation can be monitored together.

The solution
A complete view of a busy commercial site

Installation
Getting a proper view across the yard
An open yard needs more than a few cameras on the nearest building. Several cameras were fitted to lamp posts, with the electrician installing the main cabling and our team internally fishing Cat cable up the posts to reach the final camera positions.
It took more work, but it delivered a much better view across the open site while keeping the finished installation neat. The photos probably explain it better than we can—there is quite a bit of scaffold to keep an eye on!
Built to grow
16 cameras now, room for more later
The finished system uses 16 × 8MP Hikvision cameras connected to a 32-channel recorder, leaving spare capacity for future expansion. The equipment was installed neatly into a network rack, with a large monitor in the main office, a smaller four-camera view at reception and remote access configured for authorised users.

The result
Installed while the new yard took shape
The site was still being developed while day-to-day work continued, so the job needed coordination between DAV, the electrician and the customer. A three-person team completed the cameras, rack equipment, monitors and commissioning in around two to three days.
The result is a commercial CCTV system designed around the way the yard is actually used, with useful detail where it matters and plenty of capacity for future expansion.
For jobs like this, that is the bit we enjoy: understanding what the customer actually needs to see, then positioning and setting everything up properly around the site.
