CCTV or Smart Alarms? Which one protects my home better?
There are many reasons why you might want to increase the security of your home, maybe you travel a lot and need peace of mind when you’re not about, or maybe there’s been a recent increase in crime in your local area. Regardless of the reason we’re here to help and can provide you with all the advice and knowledge you need to make an informed decision about which security system will suit you best.
We have years of experience working with both CCTV systems and smart alarm systems and they both have pro’s and con’s.
CCTV Systems
Let’s start with the traditional CCTV system. The technology behind these has come on leaps and bounds in the past few years and the price of the systems has dropped dramatically making them more affordable for homeowners. The cameras we use can see full colour, even in the dead of night. You can also view the footage real time from anywhere in the world via an app on your phone. This means you can check up on your home at the press of a button. CCTV systems are expandable so we can design a system that covers key areas in your home and then add on additional cameras at a later date if you desired. Recording 24-7 365 days a year means that should the worst happen you have all the evidence you will need to send to authorities. The cameras are also instantly recognisable and will discourage the vast majority of thieves from going anywhere near your home.

Smart Alarm Systems
Smart Alarm Systems are relatively new to the market but have some amazing features. The systems we use work from a central hub which can be expanded, adding additional features all controlled via an app on your smart phone. For example, you can have a traditional motion sensor which will send a notification to your phone the second it detects any movement, whilst an alarm sounds at the property. Other features include detecting if there is a leak in your home, ideal for someone who has a second property or if you’re not about much. Fire detectors which again will send a notification to your phone, or door sensors which will alert you if a sealed food is opened.

So which one is best?
Ultimately this is for you to decide, but our opinion is that they both provide security and peace of mind in two different but complimentary ways. CCTV will discourage any thieves or vandals whilst recording any footage for the authorities, whereas a smart alarm system will alert you instantly of any intruders or problems occurring in your home. If you are looking for the ultimate security solution, we’d recommend looking at a hybrid approach of these two systems, which will provide you with a deterrence, real time updates and recording of evidence if needed.
